Improving ground clearance on any 4x4 starts with a suspension lift, the amount of lift that can achieved on a vehicle with independent suspension is limited by the open and closed length of the shock absorber struts and the driveshaft angles on full drop out. Terrafirma has determined the optimum lift is 1.5". This allows for larger tyres to be fitted and ensures sufficient up and down travel on the suspension. It also improves the approach and departure angles and increases the under-body clearance over obstacles. For vehicles fitted with air suspension the solution is to replace the electronic height sensor link rods with ones of a different length. (4 wheel alignment is recommended)
