TF259: AIR TO COIL CONVERSION – DISCOVERY 22” LIFT – MEDIUM LOAD SPRINGS & +2” LONGER 4 STAGE ADJUSTABLESHOCK ABSORBERS FRONT & REARFITTING INSTRUCTIONS1. Put the car into gear or park and apply the hand brake, loosen the front wheel nuts on one side, raise thevehicle on a trolley or bottle jack under the axle and then support the vehicle with an axle stand under thechassis. It’s easier and safer to do this job one side at a time.2. Remove the front wheel.3. Undo the 2 bolts securing the bottom of the shock absorber.4. Gently lower the axle on the jack, the axle will lower the spring away from the chassis and the spring willbecome loose. Once this happens stop lowering the axle. Take care not to stretch the brake lines.5. Undo the 4 nuts securing the shock absorber turret to the chassis bracket then Pull the turret and shockabsorber out through the hole in the inner wing.6. Undo and remove the bolt through the top of the shock absorber and then remove the shock absorber fromthe turret.7. Fit the new shock absorber in to the turret, and then replace and tighten the top bolt8. Clean the spring plate on the axle and fit the new spring ensuring you use the correct spring for the side ofthe vehicle you are changing as the springs are normally handed.9. Gently raise the axle back up using the jack and ensuring the spring relocates into the top chassis mount.10. Lower the turret and shock absorber back through the hole in the inner wing fit the washers and nuts andtighten down the turret onto the chassis bracket.11. Pull the lower part of the shock down to the spring seat and re-fit and tighten the 2 bottom securing bolts12. Refit the wheel, lower the car off of the axle stand and torque the wheel nuts correctly.13. Repeat the procedure on the other side.14. Using an Autologic or Test Book, depressurise the air suspension.15. Lift the rear of the Discovery and use axle stands to support the vehicles chassis.16. Remove the wheels and use to support the axle.17. Remove clips from air spring then push down on spring and take off the air line. Take care of compressed air.18. Find the 2 holes for the spring seat retaining bolts. To facilitate an easy installation, run a 10mm x 1.5 tapthrough these holes.20. Place lower spring seats into position.21. Jack up the axle to remove the tension from the shock absorber. Take away the lower bolt and disconnectthe ABS sensor lead from the bracket.22. Undo the nut on the bolt that goes through the top of the shock absorber and the bracket on the chassis andthen remove the bolt.23. Refit the bolt through the top of the new shock absorber and through the bracket on the chassis and then refitand tighten the nut24. Place the upper spring isolator to the top of the spring. The tighter coils of the spring should be at the top.25. Lower the axle so the spring can be installed.26. Raise the axle ensuring the spring stays in place. Refit the bolt through the top of the new shock absorberand through the bracket on the chassis and then refit and tighten the nut. Reconnect the ABS sensor lead.27. Repeat procedures for the other side of the Discovery.28. When both sides are done refit wheels lower the car off of the axle stands and torque the wheel nuts correctly.29. Use the Autologic or Test book to disable the air springs by reprogramming the ECU to coil springs.
